Synopsis
ACT 1
1. Overture

We find ourselves in the present day, at the Year 12 end of year dinner. Katie and Samantha walk out onto a balcony that overlooks an empty playground, and it is here that they reminisce about their years of friendship.
2. Friends Forever

We are flung into the chaos that is Primary School. The bell has gone and playtime erupts in a mass of children, colour and excitement. We feel the burst of energy and remember the fun that made ‘Playtime’ the best time for me and you.

3. Playtime

During playtime, a mother drops off a young girl - Katie Hall. It is her first day of school. Through the song ‘First Day’ we explore Katie’s emotions as she leaves the comfort of home for the first time. Her mother reassures her, and we see her reaching out to make a new friend. A little boy called Sebastian.

4. First Day

Soon Katie and Sebastian meet and talk for the first time. Recess continues and Mrs Hall finds Mr.Frank Chambers, the head teacher, on duty. Frank does not like yard duty. He is burned out and should really retire. Inside the staffroom, his complaints fall on deaf ears.

5. Duty

We find ourselves at the end of the first day of school. Katie, Samantha and Sebastian are waiting to be picked up. On arrival, Mrs Hall reveals how she felt leaving Katie behind for the first time. A beautiful duet reprise of ‘First Day’ follows.

6. First Day Reprise

Now in Grade 4, Miss Sterling and her classroom become the focus. She is loved, and as the song says, her room is the ‘the best room in the school’. It is here that we are introduced to Sebastian’s antics. He has become the class clown.

7. My Classroom

Once the class has finished, Sebastian is punished and has to miss out on sport. Now a real popular kid with a little gang of friends, Sebastian sings the song ‘Brat’ which lets us in on some of the trickery he has become famous for.

8. Brat

Song 8 moves quickly into Song 9 ‘Physical’. This song is a number that lends itself to all kinds of sporty choreography and calls the praises of staying fit, healthy, being part of a team and simply having a go no matter what the result.

9. Physical

Next, Katie and Samantha look back on their last year in Primary School remembering the day they received their flu injections. It was memorable for more than just injections though, and when head lice are discovered amongst the girls, things get a little crazy.

10. Nasty Little Lice

Finally the last day of Primary School arrives. On the playground, students and teachers stand around at the end of the day, talking about the holidays. The girls and Sebastian are concerned about their friendship. They want to stay together in High School. They express their feelings in a heartfelt ballad, which closes Act 1.

11. Something Special
